Comparison of Phase Separation Structures between Undercooled Cu–Fe and Cu–Co Alloys Solidified Under a Static Magnetic Field

An electromagnetic levitation technique superimposed with a static magnetic field was used to investigate the effects of convection and cooling rate levitated molten Cu80Fe20 alloy on size morphology induced phase separation structures formed during undercooling. The obtained results were compared our previous works Cu80Co20 alloy, in terms phase-separated dispersed Fe-rich phases. It revealed that Sauter mean diameter two systems followed same trend, although Co-rich phases larger than ones at higher fields. Under field, separated Cu–Co alloys had an elongated shape along direction while Cu–Fe remained almost spherical shape. This difference shapes attributed physical properties, particularly their susceptibility.
